Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Nassau
Memorial Sloan Kettering, is one of the top cancer treatment and research institutions in the United States. In April 2019, as part of their expansion process, they opened a new location in Nassau County, Long Island. It is a 14,000-square-foot freestanding treatment center with 220 employees.
The exterior of the building was designed with a beautiful combination of stone panels and HPL Max Compact Exterior woodgrain panels.
In this project, Max Compact Exterior HPL phenolic panels were able to fulfill a great number of elements in the exterior design of the building, showing a beautiful contrast with the stone panels which were the main material in the façade.
The versatility of the Max Compact Exterior panels allows both layouts - vertical and horizontal, helping to create a playful combination of the two exterior materials. It also brought to the façade a number of different elements. The wall cladding, soffits, window infills, and the side finishes of soffits were all made with the Max Compact Exterior panels.
Different decorative open roofs, topped with beams, cover some skylights and protect the interior of the building from direct exposure to the sun. At the same time, this type of decorative roof element plays an important role, letting some natural light in through the spaces between the beams. The combination of the glass, the woodgrain, and the stone creates a very modern and elegant look.
The signboard at the entrance of the facility is a significant architectural element that shows the name of the hospital on a woodgrain background (Amazon #0922). This is the same decor used in all the other elements designed with HPL panels. The elegance of the panel brings to this board all the good qualities that can support the name Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center with a sleek and high-class branding appearance.
